TikTok aims to give games a larger platform within the app via dedicated tabs.
Earlier this year, it was reported that TikTok, a social media site for sharing videos, would give the world of mobile gaming a “big boost”.
Soon he released a pilot version of nine mini-games.
However, the site is now planning to launch its own gaming channel on the app.
The new channel could be announced at TikTok Made Me Play It, the “first gaming event” on November 2nd. The event will feature Electronic Arts and his 2K Games speakers.
A dedicated tab will appear on his TikTok homepage, allowing users to access channels for mobile games that “display ads and allow users to pay for additional content.”
“The future of gaming is here,” reads the event description. “Join us to discover why TikTok is the most important growth gateway in the gaming industry.”
His Chinese version of TikTok, Douyin, owned by ByteDance, has been offering “hyper-casual games” since 2019, and TikTok has been recruiting for various gaming-related positions in recent months.
Assaf Sagy was named TikTok’s global head of gaming in September. “TikTok and gaming were made for each other,” Sagy wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing his appointment. “TikTok has proven its worth by helping consumers discover what is fun, valuable and popular. We look forward to making TikTok a central cornerstone of our marketing strategy.”
TikTok has not confirmed reports, but said, “We are constantly looking for ways to enrich our platform and regularly test new ideas that we believe will bring value to our community.” That’s because Netflix hopes to expand its mobile gaming offerings with the launch of its “cloud gaming service.”
