Test a PC game streaming program that could allow TikTok to compete with Twitch

Instead of focusing on users streaming directly from their mobile devices, TikTok Live’s focus could be extended to game streaming, competing with Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming.
According to Zach Bussey, who on Twitter shared a screenshot of TikTok Live Studio, the software is currently in bare minimum. It reportedly supports streaming in both landscape and portrait modes, and can draw footage from games, individual programs, mobile devices, and cameras.

TikTok is testing new desktop streaming software called TikTok Live Studio, which will let users broadcast live video of games and other desktop applications. TikTok says the software is currently being tested with a small number of users in some western markets, but the official page on TikTok’s website appears to have been taken down upon publication. The release of TikTok Live Studio could represent an interesting shift in TikTok’s live streaming strategy.

  • According to Loola.tv’s help site, as of July this year, “TikTok streaming is currently disabled for most users.” It’s not clear when TikTok will expand Live Studio testing to more users. But once desktop streaming becomes widely available, it’s likely that more variety will be added to the platform’s catalog of live content.

  • In the past, you could live stream to TikTok from your desktop device using third-party software such as Streamlabs, but the help page for this feature indicates that access is restricted and invite only. It has been. There are also tutorials using third-party services like Loola.tv as a workaround for connecting TikTok to streaming programs like his OBS but it’s still not perfect.
