As China’s trading hub, Shanghai, emphasizes innovation in science and technology as a key driver of quality development, the annual science gala, the World Laureates Forum (WLF), once again ranks among the world’s top science attracted people.
The 5th WLF, one of the world’s largest science and technology conferences held annually in metropolitan cities since 2018, kicked off on Sunday with the topic “Science Forward: Creating a Brighter Future”.
More than 60 of his top scientists from over 20 countries and regions, including 27 Nobel laureates, participated in his two-day online and offline event.
Two Scientists Win His WLA Prize
His 2022 WLA Life Science or Medicine Award goes to German biochemist Dirk Görlich, who made important discoveries that unravel the mechanisms and selectivity of protein trafficking between the cytoplasm and nucleus, and his research in computer science or mathematics.
At Sunday’s opening ceremony, the two scientists were awarded the first prize of the World Laureates Association (WLA), an international science award launched in Shanghai in 2021.
The 2022 WLA Award went to American researcher Michael I Jordan. For his fundamental contributions to the foundations of machine learning and its applications. In addition to medals and certificates, prize money of 10 million RMB (approximately US$1.39 million) was awarded to each of them.
His WLA Awards, initiated by the WLA and run by the WLA Foundation, aim to recognize and support the contributions to science of outstanding researchers from around the world. Her first WLA Award winner was officially announced on September 29th.
science and technology for mankind WLA was founded with a vision of “Science and Technology for the Common Destiny of Mankind” and his three missions: to advance basic research, foster international cooperation, and support the development of the younger generation of scientists. Roger Kornberg, chairman of the WLA and sponsor of the Nobel Prize, said: He received his PhD in Chemistry in 2006.
He pointed out that as the world changes, science can assist individuals in overcoming obstacles and, in the future, completely resolving issues. The event encourages participants to network with the top specialists in their fields. He continued by saying that it presents a special opportunity to interact. In recent years, WLF has developed into a significant forum for high-level debate in the international scientific community as well as a medium for bringing together the top scientists in the world. At the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China placed a strong emphasis on fostering global science and technology cooperation and exchanges, according to Wan Gang, head of the Chinese Association of Science and Technology (CAST).
