Less than 48 hours after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis won re-election in a landslide victory on a worse-than-expected night for Republicans, his former political benefactor Donald Trump dropped the bomb to end the Cold War.
In a public statement released Thursday night, Trump accused the governor of being ungrateful and “mean” and that he was “playing a game” about a possible 2024 presidential nomination.
Even if DeSantis avoided publicly criticizing Trump, the outrage and far-reaching message clearly shows that a disgruntled Trump sees DeSantis as a rival for the Republican presidential nominee.
If the tensions between them weren’t made sufficiently clear before, advisers to both DeSantis and Trump will have a hard time denying it now. The statement is reminiscent of DeSantis’ first win for governor in 2018. This is largely thanks to Trump’s endorsement.
DeSantis’ re-election campaign did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
“Ron came to me in 2017 in desperate shape. He was politically dead and landslided against Adam Putnam, a very good agriculture commissioner who was full of cash and fantastic votes.” “Putnam was DeSantis’ opponent in the Republican primary. “When I supported him, it was like a nuclear weapon exploding with bad words.”
Trump also argued that had he not intervened as president, DeSantis would have lost to Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum in 2018. He said, “When votes were being stolen through the corrupt Broward County election process… I dispatched the FBI and US attorneys, and the election theft was quickly over.
There is no evidence that this attempted voter fraud claim is true.
“And now Ron DeSanctimonias is playing the game! Fake News asked him if he would run if President Trump ran, and he said, ‘I’m just focused on running for governor.’ “Well, in terms of loyalty and class, that’s not the right answer.” Trump’s statement complained that the conservative media was “all in” on DeSantis. In a statement, he played against the former Florida governor running for president in his 2016 Republican primary and revived one of his memorable nicknames.
“Raw Energy Jeb Bush and a bunch of others disappeared quickly and eventually joined me after I easily knocked them out one by one. “We are in exactly the same position now. They keep chasing us, MAGA, but in the end we win. Let’s make it great again!”
