The Japanese release of the upcoming horror game The Callisto Protocol has been cancelled.
The title failed to receive an age rating from Japan’s Computer Entertainment Rating Organization, according to an announcement via the game’s Japanese Twitter account.
“Callisto Protocol has decided to stop releasing the Japanese version,” reads a statement whose translation has been verified by sister site Eurogamer.
“We are unable to pass the CERO assessment at this time and have determined that we are unable to provide the experience we require. I hope that everyone in Japan will understand. If you have already booked, we will refund your money. ”
Striking Distance CEO Glen Schofield faced criticism last month after tweeting that the studio was running “he’s six to seven days a week.”
According to Serkan Toto of Japanese consulting firm Kantan Games, CERO wasn’t happy with the amount of violence included in the space horror title.
Schofield later apologized for the post, saying, “We value passion and creativity, not long hours.” The game is set to release in the West on December 2nd.
