“It’s almost like a new medium,” says Hideo Kojima of his next project, “which transcends video games”

• The author, game developer Hideo Kojima, has made a bold statement about his next project, claiming it will irrevocably change not only the video game industry, but the film industry as well. A unique creator has made similarly grand claims in the past, and it’s worth receiving with a hearty heap of salt, so it softens expectations a bit on this front.

In his in-depth interview with The Guardian, Kojima reflected on his impressive 36-year career in game development, seven of which he spent as an independent. He was wearing a T-shirt that read “Who Am I?” This agrees with an ongoing marketing campaign for a mystery project that is said to involve actress Elle Fanning.

Kojima Productions has at least two major video game projects in the works, one of which is said to be ‘Death Stranding 2’. Kojima has wanted to create something next for years, but technology has been insufficient to realize his ambitions…until now. If it succeeds, not only the game industry but also the movie industry will turn around.”

But the biggest problem with this project is the infrastructure and the inherent danger of becoming a market leader. Mr. Kojima explains: Everything is difficult for first-timers. But I want to be number one. I want to stay number one,” he said.
