A social media post from a celebrity with 2.8 million followers, like starlet Chlo Grace Moretz, requesting assistance on a PC setup, is the only bait that is guaranteed to catch the attention of PC gamers.
The Kick-Asss and The Peripheral star has been openly tweeting about her gaming preferences lately. She claimed to have been “obsessed” with the Modern Warfare 2 beta back in September and to have a significant interest in sim racing. She seemed to be on the verge of becoming a full-fledged PC gamer right now.
“To all my gaming pals out there—for a PC set up, where should I begin, how deep do I need to dig into the subtleties of?” Moretz tweeted the bait in the early hours of Wednesday.
After three hours and over 750 replies, she had already received the typical mix of suggestions: influencers and other fans recommending boutique PC builders, others advising doing it yourself, and brands eagerly putting up their own systems. (I want to especially thank reader Chris Thornett for recommending Alan Dexter from PC Gamer as a seasoned hardware specialist.
If I were Moretz, I would have given up on replying to a topic with more than 750 replies right away, but he mentions PCPartPicker as a helpful tool that suggests overbuilding pre-built computers. I am delighted she responded to a few of them. As our EIC Evan Lahti noted in a long-ago article, making one’s own computer is an exceptional experience.
