Xiaomi has announced that it has sold over 5 million TVs in India. The Chinese company entered the TV market in 2018 with its first Mi TV model to take on heavyweights like Samsung and Sony. It was then that the television market underwent a radical change, such as the way the smartphone industry has changed. This all happened mainly because Xiaomi now claims 22% market share as of the second quarter of 2020.

Mi TV comes with PatchWall UI, which is essentially a custom skin loaded with an algorithm that curates content from different platforms. Today, Xiaomi sells a wide range of smart TVs in India including the latest Horizon Edition which is 32 inches in size. The company has also partnered with Netflix, Amazon, Hotstar to allow its Mi TV users to access streaming apps with the help of its custom Android-based skin.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is also facing tough competition in the market in recent times. Its rival Realme is aggressively launching new smart TV models with high-end features but with a low-priced sticker. OnePlus has also entered the budget segment with its Y-series TVs, which will be up for grabs at a discount of Rs 1,000 during the upcoming Flipkart Big Billion Days sale. Other rivals include Vu Televisions, Kodak, Thomson and Samsung who are giving Xiaomi a tough fight in the Indian TV market. Xiaomi, however, still manages to secure a significant share with its Mi TV.

Commenting on the announcement, Eshwar Nilakantan, Head of TV Category at Mi India, said: “Mi India has played a pivotal role in building the smart TV market in India by providing the best hardware and software, at an incredibly great price.
