WhatsApp will soon allow users to report unwanted contacts, groups

WhatsApp is working on many new features that will be released in the future. According to the latest updates, the messaging app is rolling out a feature that would allow users to report unwanted chats or groups on the app. This is similar to how you can report accounts on Facebook that you find suspicious. However, WhatsApp will take action against the account only after proper verification.

According to Wabetainfo, the “report to WhatsApp” feature has been made available for beta testers. If you are a beta tester and want to try this feature, you will need to update your app to version 2.20.206.3 on the Google Play Store. This feature is similar to the report option you get on other social media sites for example Twitter, Facebook and other. However, WhatsApp will verify the report using various means and then act against the reported contact.

So, to begin with, WhatsApp will first check how many reports have been sent against the contact in question. Wabetainfo states that if it is a new phone number and yet there are many reports filed against it, WhatsApp will blacklist the number. However, according to the latest beta updates, WhatsApp will receive a copy of recent messages from the chat to check if a relationship is reliable or not.

However, a user needs to know that WhatsApp will never read your chats without permission as they are end-to-end encrypted. But when you report a contact on WhatsApp, you also agree to forward a copy of that chat’s recent messages to WhatsApp. WhatsApp is also introducing the functionality for groups and companies. When you report a group on WhatsApp, you also agree to the terms under which the most recent messages will be forwarded to WhatsApp for verification. Apart from that, you also have the option to exit the group and delete messages from this group.

Likewise, users can also report corporate accounts on WhatsApp if they no longer wish to receive messages from that account. Along with this, users will also have the option to block the contact and delete chat messages.

The feature has been rolled out for Android beta testers and will soon be made available to iOS beta testers. As for the official launch, WhatsApp is still testing the feature and once the feature is ready, the messaging app will release the feature.
