WhatsApp explains disappearing messages, says it should be used with trusted contacts

WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to send messages that disappear. It’s been in the works for a while. Now disappearing messages are making their way to the top of WhatsApp and via an FAQ the chat app explains how the feature will work. The feature, once implemented for WhatsApp users, will allow users to send messages that will disappear or expire from the chat window after seven days.

On its official website, WhatsApp notes: “You can send disappearing messages on WhatsApp by enabling disappearing messages. Once enabled, new messages sent in individual or group chat will disappear after seven days. The most recent selection checks all messages in the chat. This setting will not affect any messages you have previously sent or received in chat. “

The option to make messages disappear in an individual chat can be enabled by any user. But in a group chat, only administrators will be able to enable or disable disappearing messages.

As mentioned, if users activate the disappearing messages option, the text disappears after seven days. Meanwhile, if a user does not open the WhatsApp application in the phone, the message will surely disappear within seven days but a preview of the message will be displayed in the notifications until WhatsApp is opened.

“If a message that disappears is forwarded to a chat with messages that disappear disabled, the message will not disappear in the forwarded chat. If a user creates a backup before a message disappears, the message that disappears will be included in the backup. Messages that disappear they will be deleted when a user restores from a backup, ”the company said on the FAQ page.

Users interested in exploring WhatsApp Disappearing Messages should know that even if you enable the option and think everything is gone in seven days, keep in mind that other users who are part of a chat can easily forward, or take a screenshot or save the message before it disappears.

This is why the company also warns that the latest missing messages feature should be used with trusted recipients.

Likewise, if a user sends photos, videos and other multimedia content with disappearing messages enabled, they will disappear in the mentioned time period but will be saved in the phone gallery if automatic download is on. To turn off automatic download, users need to go to WhatsApp Settings> Data usage and storage> Automatic media download.

In other words, it is different than Snapchat.
