The disappearing message function can be used for individual chats as well as for groups.
Announcing the feature, WhatsApp blogged: “Today, WhatsApp messages often live on our phones forever. While it’s great to keep the memories of friends and family, most of what we send doesn’t have to be eternal. our goal is to make conversations on WhatsApp as close in person as possible, which means they shouldn’t stay forever. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the option to use disappearing messages on WhatsApp. “
The disappearing messages option, if enabled, will delete the messages after seven days. The feature can be used for individual chats, but in group chats, the group admin will take control of the settings. It will decide whether or not to activate the message disappearance function.
Speaking of setting a seven-day time frame, WhatsApp noted on the blog: “We’re starting with 7 days because we think it offers the peace of mind that conversations aren’t permanent while still being practical, so you don’t forget what you were chatting about. The shopping list. or the store address you received a few days ago will be there as long as you need it, and then it will disappear after you don’t. “

Previously, WhatsApp had explained on its FAQ page how the disappearing message feature will work. Once enabled, new messages sent in individual or group chat will disappear after seven days. The most recent selection checks all messages. messages in chat. This setting will not affect messages that you have previously sent or received in chat. In an individual chat, both users can enable or disable the disappearance of messages. In a group chat, only group administrators can enable or disable the disappearance of messages. “
As for the media in disappearing messages, WhatsApp says that “the media you receive in WhatsApp will be automatically downloaded to your photos. If message disappearance is enabled, the multimedia content sent in the chat will disappear but will be saved on your phone if Automatic download is enabled.
