WhatsApp Disappearing Messages goes live in India, here is how to use it

A few days after WhatsApp made the missing messages official, the feature has now been implemented in India. Users can now update their WhatsApp app and use the feature on all platforms including Android, iOS, desktop, KaiOS, and web. WhatsApp had already implemented WhatsApp Pay, Always Mute and an improved archiving tool.

Announcing the feature, WhatsApp said on its blog: “WhatsApp messages often live on our phones forever. While it’s great to keep the memories of friends and family, most of what we send doesn’t have to be eternal. Our goal is to make conversations on WhatsApp heard as close as possible in person, which means they shouldn’t stay forever. That’s why we’re excited to introduce the option to use disappearing messages on WhatsApp.

Message Disappearing is an activation feature that, when activated, will delete the sent message after seven days. The feature can be activated for individual and group chats. If you want to save a message before it disappears, you can take a screenshot or copy and paste it.

Speaking of the seven-day period, WhatsApp noted on the blog: “We are starting with 7 days because we think it offers the peace of mind that conversations are not permanent while remaining practical, so you don’t forget what you were chatting about. The shopping list or the address of the store you received a few days ago will be there as long as you need it, and then it will disappear after you don’t have it.

Here’s how to activate the message disappearance function on WhatsApp

– First, update WhatsApp on Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

– After updating the app, open the WhatsApp chat window

– Touch the contact name, you want to activate the disappearing message function.

– Select Enable message disappearance.

You will have to follow the same procedure to activate the function on Android, iOS and WhatsApp Web.

When you activate the disappearing messages feature, it will also notify the contact that the feature has been activated for their chat. The message will appear on both chat windows. However, if you forward a message that disappears, it won’t be deleted after seven days. If the disappearing message is an image or a video, it will automatically be saved in your gallery. Only if you have activated the automatic download function.

WhatsApp says that “the media you receive in WhatsApp will be automatically downloaded to your photos. If message disappearance is enabled, the multimedia content sent in the chat will disappear but will be saved on your phone if automatic download is enabled. You can disable the download automatic in WhatsApp Settings> Data usage and storage. “
