WhatsApp has implemented a new feature that will help users manage their storage well. The messaging app on Tuesday announced a new feature that would allow users to delete items in bulk and free up space. WhatsApp was rumored to have been working on this feature for some time and finally made it official for users.
Announcement of the new feature on Twitter, WhatsApp tweeted from its official handle. “We’ve made it easier to review, collect items and free up space. This new storage management tool is located in Settings> Storage & Data> Manage Storage.” WhatsApp also shared a video on how the feature will work.
In the video, you can see that the user is notified with a “memory almost full” banner at the top of the chat window when they reach the maximum limit. If you tap the full storage banner, you will be taken to the Manage Storage section. The Manage screen will show which media took up how much space and other types of content.
Here’s how you can use the feature
– Open your app and go to Settings
– Go to Manage Storage and Data
– Then tap Manage Storage
Users will also receive separate sections that will show the space occupied by forwarded messages and files larger than 5MB. This would make it easier for users to get rid of absolutely non-essential stuff. WhatsApp will also show how much space each chat occupied on a contact list. Users can free up space for files, media and even messages by tapping the Select All option.
However, a user must remember that the multimedia content he is deleting from his app will remain on their phones. This feature only helps to clear the app memory and not the phone memory. So if there is something you want to delete from your phone, you will have to do it manually. WhatsApp will begin rolling out this feature to Android and iOS users.
“We now offer simple cleaning tips by bucketing both large files and media that have been submitted many times, sorting files by size in descending order, and providing a way to preview files before deleting them. You can also preview media files before selecting one or more items to delete. The new storage management tools will be available to users around the world this week. When available, users can access the new tool by going to Settings> Storage and Data> Manage Storage, “WhatsApp said in a statement.
