“We are here to raise funds by passing the boot and filling the boot”: the fundraiser benefits the families of the fallen firefighters | News

“They’ve got a boot set up at both of the entrances, so as people are paying their admission, the boot is there for them to drop money in,” Frank McGettigan, an alumni of Mineral Point High School said.

On Sunday, the Mineral Point School District held a “Fill the Boot” fundraiser during the Pointer Nation Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Mineral Point High School.

  • “Anybody that’s here has crossed paths or been friends with either one of the guys,” McGettigan said. “Me personally, I grew up in the same neighborhood as the Busch family, so between their brothers and their sisters, I was around them growing up–only two years younger than Brian, so we were together a lot as kids.”

  • McGettigan grew up in the same neighborhood as Brian Busch and remembers him fondly.

“Given the tragedy that the community has suffered this week, we’re here to raise money by passing the boot and filling the boot for families of Jim Ludlum and Brian Busch,” McGettigan said.

During this tragic time, McGettigan said it is crucial for the community to come together to honor both men and help their families.

This was one of a number of “Fill the Boot” fundraisers to take place in Mineral Point to benefit families.

The Mine Shaft bar in Mineral Point is also holding a “Fill the Boot” fundraiser that runs through Sunday.
