US Treasury candidate Yellen says China is guilty of “horrendous” rights abuses

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – China is guilty of “horrendous human rights violations,” Janet Yellen, appointed Treasury Secretary to US President Joe Biden, told lawmakers on Tuesday.

Yellen, former chairman of the Federal Reserve, said the United States needed to make investments to allow it to compete with China, which he described as the United States’ most important strategic competitor.
