Unemployment rate in Canada in December changed to 8.8% – Statscan

OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canadian unemployment rate revised to 8.8% in December from 8.6% on Monday, while the net decline in jobs for the month was changed to 52,700 from 62,600, as Statistics Canada completed a historical review of the workforce data.

The review, undertaken to ensure that the data were aligned with recent estimates on population and geographic boundaries, had “virtually no effect” on employment estimates for the March to December 2020 pandemic period, said the agency.
