Tweets wishing for death of hospitalised Trump are not allowed, says Twitter

Like the American Donald Trump, who tested positive for COVID-19, hospitalized last night, many Twitter users tweeted wishing his death. Twitter has now claimed that these tweets hoping for Trump’s death violate the policies that Twitter follows.

“Tweets wishing or hoping for death, serious personal injury or fatal illness against anyone are not allowed and will need to be removed,” the company said in a tweet.

The company later added in a media statement that the policy covers all users and not just Trump. This means that tweets wishing any person’s death violate Twitter rules and users might be suspected of site. Social media site claimed that such tweets are limited by abusive tweet policies.

Earlier on Friday, Donald Trump was admitted to Walter Reed Medical Center. Earlier Trump, who has so far downplayed COVID-19, had tweeted about his infection. He said, “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will immediately begin our quarantine and recovery process. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

From the hospital, she tweeted: “I’m doing fine, I guess! Thank you all. LOVE !!!”

The two tweets themselves attracted many comments wishing Trump harm, although there were also many hoping for his speedy recovery.

Facebook it also has a policy on posts wishing to kill public figures. However, it is different from Twitter policy. Facebook allows users to wish harm to others unless users tag said people.
