Apple iPhone 12 Pro could be the best and most powerful iPhone model to date, but there’s an Android phone that goes hand in hand, at least in selfie quality rated by DxOMark. Both iPhone 12 Pro and Asus Zenfone 6 tied for the same spot by scoring 98 points for how good the selfies they can click are. The iPhone 12 Pro has a 12MP camera for selfies while Zenfone 6 uses motorized vibration cameras which house dual 48MP and 13MP sensors.

According to DxOMark, the iPhone 12 Pro Max scored 101 points and 93 points for the photo and video categories respectively, but the overall score for the front camera is 98. This is the same as the Asus Zenfone 6 scored for its camera. Since the Asus Zenfone 6 uses the same set of cameras for both the front and rear sides, this score is valid for both and lower than what the iPhone 12 Pro rear cameras scored on DxOMark.

In its review, DxOMark noted that photos taken using the 12MP camera on iPhone 12 Pro has precise exposure on faces while skin tone is perfect, thanks to the advanced technology the sensor is now equipped with. Pictures taken under bright to normal indoor lighting conditions are highly detailed in which every element of the subject is widely visible. There is controlled noise in these photos as long as the lighting conditions are favorable.

Furthermore, the iPhone The 12 Pro camera can produce accurate depth in portrait mode, thanks to the additional sensor that guides the camera to map the contours of the subject. But despite this level of bokeh, there is some background noise. The white balance and high dynamic range of these photos occasionally deviate from the optimal path, but the results are impressive. Exposure suffers when using a flashlight. But the biggest drawback is the fixed focus the camera comes with, which allows the blur to work its way onto some distant subjects.

DxOMark noticed that the videos on iPhone 12 Pro maintains accurate white balance and wide dynamic range. But sometimes, the camera detects and retains some residual motion effects, artifacts when moving, along with a certain level of noise in low light.

The iPhone 12 Pro is one of the most advanced phones out there and its selfie camera is far better than most premium flagships, but it ties in with Asus Zenfone 6 when it comes to DxOMark ratings. This, in the real world, means the iPhone 12 Pro can click on some really cool photos that you’ll love despite some nominal demands for the price tag. The iPhone 12 Pro starts at Rs 1,19,900 in India.

Apple iPhone 12 Pro tied with a very capable Android phone when it comes to selfie quality, according to scores provided by DxOMark.
