The ESRB has given the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection a Teen rating. A descriptor beneath the rating that indicates “no interactive components” is more fascinating than the rating itself. When you look at the grading guides, you can put this unclear bullet point into context. The bullet point noted above “highlights interactive or online features…this includes users’ capacity to engage with each other,” according to the official ESRB page that details its multiple ratings. According to this description, the multiplayer mode in Uncharted 4 for PS5 and PC will most likely be removed.
Earlier this year, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, which includes Uncharted 4 and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy on PC and PlayStation 5, was unveiled. As one of the most technically amazing last-gen games, any chance to improve on the current experience is welcomed. Unfortunately, according to the ESRB listing, fans will not be able to get the full experience next year.
This isn’t the first time online functionality has been stripped from an Uncharted re-release. Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection also infamously removed the multiplayer from both Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 to prevent segmenting the player base across generations. The original PS3 servers for the Uncharted games are no longer online, meaning those experiences are now lost to time.
