Texas A&M defeats state of New Mexico 4-1 on baseball diamond after NMSU is involved in pre-game bus

COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS (KTSM) – The New Mexico State baseball team lost to Texas A&M 4-1 Friday night in Aggieland, but that was probably the least exciting part of the NMSU day.

On the way to the baseball field, NMSU was involved in a bus accident at South College Station. None of the team were injured, but with their bus out of order, coach Mike Kirby and the Aggies were forced to walk the last 1.5 miles to Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

“I’ve known Kirby for a while, he’s a hard-nosed, blue-collar guy and so is his team,” said Texas A&M head coach Rob Childress. “I think they just put on their backpacks, walked down the street and were on time for BP. I wouldn’t expect anything less from a team coached by Kirby. “

The Aggies arrived in time for the first pitch and hung with Texas A&M all night, tying the game on a passed ball in the fourth inning. However, strike promptly from A&M in the late inning propelled them to a 4-1 win over NMSU.

The two teams will meet at 1pm MT at College Station on Saturday afternoon as NMSU also looks to the weekend series in one game each.
