Taiwan’s economy minister talks to TSMC about car chip shortage

TAIPEI (Reuters) – Taiwanese economy minister Wang Mei-hua spoke to senior executives at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) on Sunday about the global shortage of car chips, the ministry said Monday.

The ministry said TSMC told them it will “optimize” the chip manufacturing process to make it more efficient and prioritize automatic chip manufacturing if it is able to further increase capacity.

TSMC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
