Nokia today announced the expansion of its long-standing partnership with T-Mobile with a five-year agreement aimed at advancing and expanding the latter’s nationwide 5G network for better coverage and future breakthrough experiences.
Commenting on the expanded partnership, Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO of Nokia, said, “Nokia has a long-standing and collaborative partnership with T-Mobile and our industry-leading 5G RAN solutions will support the new T-Mobile network. The expanded and updated 5G network that leverages all bands of the spectrum will offer exciting new solutions to even more people and businesses, and our technology will play a vital role in delivering these compelling connectivity experiences for work and play. “
As part of the multi-year agreement, T-Mobile will leverage Nokia’s AirScale Radio platform to implement a 5G Ultra Capacity tier with 2.5 GHz Massive MIMO technology and Nokia will continue to expand extended range (low band) 5G coverage of T-Mobile. Both improvements will increase user experience and network capacity.
In a press release, Nokia said it will provide market-leading AirScale radio access solutions, including macro and small cells on low, medium and mmWave spectrum, to support Un-carrier’s supercharged 5G network and Massive MIMO will enable T- The spectrum of the 2.5 GHz medium band of Mobile to use to its full potential and increase network performance.
By combining extended range 5G (low band) with additional 5G Ultra Capacity (2.5 GHz mid band), non-carrier customers will experience greater 5G speed.
“From the moment Sprint joined T-Mobile, we have quickly combined networks for a supercharged Un-carrier experience, while continuing to aggressively expand our 5G footprint nationwide. We have already done a huge step. step forward with autonomous 5G nationwide earlier this year and this agreement with Nokia will help us deliver incredible innovations and opportunities in this country, “said Neville Ray, President of Technology, T-Mobile.
T-Mobile claims to be the first and only US provider to combine the power of Extended Range and Ultra Capacity 5G and also plans to add advanced technical features such as voice over 5G (VoNR), network slicing and massive multi-user MIMO to its 5G Network.
