Suicide, psychiatry and politics | Psychiatric Times

Psychiatry and society

H. Steven Moffic talks about the alarming suicide rates, especially that of police officers. While the police need to be held accountable for potential racism and prejudice, they also need mental health support, as there are many right now.

Dr. Moffic is an award-winning psychiatrist specializing in the cultural and ethical aspects of psychiatry. A prolific writer and speaker, he received the outstanding designation of being a hero of public psychiatry from the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association in 2002. He most recently led Tikkun Olam’s advocacy movements on climate instability, burnout, Islamophobia and anti-Semitism for a better world. He is a member of the Psychiatric TimesTM Editorial Board.
