HOLOCAUST WRITING COMPETITION: The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation Council for Jewish Community Relations invites grades 7-12 students in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties and western Pennsylvania to enter its annual competition of writing, art and multimedia on the Holocaust, a project in collaboration with Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial Day). To commemorate this academic year on April 8, Yom Hashoah is an internationally recognized day dedicated to remembrance of all the victims of the Holocaust and to remind society of what can happen to civilized people when fanaticism, hatred and indifference reign.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Torn From Home “, a reflection on how the forced loss of a safe place to call” home “is part of the trauma faced by victims of genocide and persecution and the difficulties survivors face as they try to find new homes and build new lives. Appropriate competition proposals must conform to the theme “Torn From Home “and relate to the Holocaust.

The deadline is March 26. Although submissions can be submitted by post, students are encouraged to submit all submissions electronically. Writings, art and media …
