Spider-Man is, of course, the hottest superhero on the planet – and he’s recently seen his popularity soar once more thanks to Tom Holland’s take on the character. But it’s important to remember that Activision was making Spider-Man games for years, and they never came close to matching these numbers – that’s testament to both great marketing from Sony and superb execution from Insomniac Games. We can’t wait for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Wow! As of May 15th, Marvel’s Spider-Man is by far the most popular franchise in Sony’s stable, with Insomniac Games’ two superhero-themed games selling a combined 33 million copies. That’s a mind-boggling figure: we’re talking peak Nintendo and Rockstar numbers. Remember that the franchise has only had two games thus far – Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales – and they were both exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. They’ll be released on PC later this year, and it’s expected that many more copies will be sold there.
