Silicon Valley CEOs can’t set the law, says the EU leader

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The European Union chief executive on Wednesday hailed Joe Biden’s tenure as US president as a new dawn, but warned that the bloc will work to regulate American tech companies, calling for global standards.

“After four long years, Europe has a friend in the White House,” said Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who welcomed outgoing President Donald Trump’s ban. Twitter.

But he added, “This kind of decision has to be made in accordance with the laws and rules … not an arbitrary decision in the power of Silicon Valley CEOs.”
