Razr 3: Motorola hinted at potential UI and gameplay improvements for the upcoming foldable flagship

Motorola is gearing up to debut a new top-end smartphone with at least 1 ground-breaking feature on its launch. However, the OEM also seems to want to keep its foldable alternative on the map right alongside it with specs and performance that might challenge those of its candy-bar counterparts more than ever before.

In earnest, Motorola has now begun to tease a 2022 addition to the Razr family of foldable clamshell cellphones. A “creative” new lockscreen for the device’s external display is mentioned in one of its most recent teases, and the prospect of gaming-specific capabilities that would have surpassed its predecessor is mentioned in another.

  • Furthermore, it is now touted to get even closer to its non-foldable counterparts than ever in 2022. Motorola China’s general manager, Chen Jin, has taken to Weibo to assert that the OEM’s foldable-making technology has advanced enough to allow it to cram X-axis linear haptics and dual stereo speakers into the upcoming clamshell “at all costs”.

  • The “Razr 3” is naturally touted to rival the Moto X30 Pro based primarily on the unique selling point of its 6.7-inch flexible OLED main display. However, the 2 phones are also currently thought to launch with the same top-end Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC (which would be a first for the Razr).

This may or may not be a huge deal, considering the preceding Razr might have done the same, but might indicate that Motorola could be putting more work into its version of Android for foldables this time around: something that might prove welcome news for Razr fans in the near future. The original Razr 2019: down to ~US$300 on Amazon by now.

Those components would indeed represent a substantial improvement on the original Razr build (on paper, at least) and might, in concert with the device’s rumored flagship platform, provide an upgraded gaming experience on the purported foldable. In other Razr 3 news, Chen Jin has also revealed a newly-developed lockscreen for the device, implying in the process that the external screen for which the element is intended is large enough to accommodate a circular watch-face-sized image.

My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
