Tech News: Pac-Man and Hello Kitty turned into interactive AR objects in Google Search.

Google is putting a bunch of iconic Japanese characters into Search as augmented reality objects you can interact with. The tech giant gives you the ability to bring 14 famous people from anime, video games and TV shows in your environment, including Pac-Man and Hello Kitty. Apparently, Pac-Man remains the most searched animated icon on Google, especially (for some reason) in Peru. Her global research interest is more than double that of the second most wanted character, Hello Kitty.

Apart from these two, you can also summon Ultraman, Evangelion and Gundam robots and Little Twin Stars characters in your space. Like Google’s other AR objects, they can be scaled up or down depending on the actual surface they’re placed on. All you have to do to access them is to search for the character you want on Google on mobile, find their AR map in the results and tap “View in 3D” to see them in your space.

On Android devices, you can search the Google app or any Android browser, as long as your phone supports ARCore. Meantime, Apple users can view Pac-Man, Hello Kitty, and other characters in their space via the Google app on devices running iOS 11 or later.
