Oppo TV will finally arrive on October 19th. The Chinese tech giant’s first smart television will officially come out later this month, however, initially in its home market. The company detailed its plans to enter the home entertainment market with its first TV much earlier, but never shared a concrete timeline. Some evidence previously spotted pointed to Oppo TV, but all that speculation finally ends with the company’s announcement.
Oppo has announced that it will hold an event in Shanghai to unveil its first television and it looks like the company wants to go back to having physical events. After the coronavirus pandemic hit the tech world, launch events found themselves virtual place. But Oppo is planning a return to physical places with his television, suggesting something great to expect.
The teaser shared by Oppo tells us nothing apart from what can be deduced from the slogan “One More Step”. But thanks to the listings on the Chinese 3C certification website, we know there will be at least two models: one with a 55-inch panel and another with a 65-inch panel. The first has a model number A55UB00 and the second has the code name A65UB00.
Some folks who track Oppo’s development suggest the teaser suggestions about a selfie camera on television, perhaps for video calling on big screens, which, by the way, doesn’t seem plausible. But this isn’t the first time a company has made this strange attempt. Honor has already launched its smart television with a built-in camera on top. Although it was announced for India in 2019 with a promised release date in early 2020, it never went on sale.
We’re not sure if this will be a thing, but you can expect some standard features, like 4K HDR on the display, MEMC technology for motion smoothing, even a 120Hz refresh rate on the panel, Dolby Audio perhaps for the speakers, and Android TV. support a range of apps available in China for streaming. Oppo could launch its first smart television outside of China, including markets like India, where its Realme branch recently unveiled the 55-inch premium 4K SLED TV.
