Ahead of the launch of its new smartphone, OnePlus 8T, the company’s co-founder Carl Pei has announced that he will be leaving the company. The news comes not only as a shock to millions of OnePlus fans this morning, but also as OnePlus’s biggest jolt since it launched 7 years ago.

The news comes courtesy of a leaked post from Reddit user JonSigur, who allegedly posted screenshots of internal memos on OnePlus revealing the information. While the memos don’t reveal Pei’s next destination, they claim to reveal a change in leadership at the company.

The notes that Emily Dai, who is currently in charge of the company’s operations in India, will be appointed to head the North product line globally. This is interesting as Pei was previously in charge of the Nord series of phones.

In a separate article posted on his website, Tech Crunch appears to have confirmed the news by claiming that sources familiar with the matter have confirmed that Pei is indeed leaving the company. At the time of writing, Android Police has also posted a story confirming the news that Pei has left OnePlus.

Although it is not known whether Pei’s departure from the company occurred on a reciprocal basis, reports suggest he could have been fired. However, this could also be pure speculation with more information on the subject expected to be revealed in the coming days.

The news of Carl Pei leaving OnePlus could represent the biggest jolt for the company since its inception 7 years ago.
