Nokia launches new 4K streaming box to bring Android to big screens

Nokia is launching a new streaming box for European markets. Called the Nokia Streaming Box 8000, the new multimedia device for televisions comes with Android 10 software, which means it brings the latest system-wide features and within several apps that may have them ready for big screens. The streaming box will connect to your TV and make it smart instantly. Use a Wi-Fi connection for the Internet.

The new Nokia Streaming Box 8000 is Streamview’s latest product, which holds the license to sell a select range of Nokia devices in Europe. This is similar to how Flipkart sells Nokia TV and Nokia Media Streamer in India. This is also why Streamview’s new Nokia streaming device will be available in select markets in Europe and is highly unlikely to reach other markets, Android Authority reported.

The Nokia Streaming Box 8000, in fact, is not yet officially available. The folks at Android Authority got their hands on the device ahead of launch. The official price is not yet available, but according to the report it would be around 99 euros (around 8,700 Rs). We also have the first look at the Nokia Streaming Box 8000 packaging which shows the device in its entirety.

Contrary to the Nokia Media Streamer available in India, the Nokia Streaming Box 8000 comes with support for 4K video resolution. The remote that comes with the device is backlit and has hotkeys for Google Assistant, Google Play, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. It’s not a small remote, just like the ones you get from Xiaomi or Amazon for their streaming devices. It is a full-fledged remote control with number buttons among others.

Some additional information such as Dolby Vision and Dolby Audio support are not available immediately. But since Nokia Media Streamer available in India offers support for Dolby Audio, we can safely assume that the European model has this feature as well. However, I’m still not sure about Dolby Vision. In case it is available, it will make the streamer an even better deal. A large proportion of customers consume Netflix and Amazon Prime Video content available in Dolby Vision, which the streaming box will take care of.

Nokia is updating its home entertainment portfolio in Europe for now with the latest Android-based streaming box.
