Hyderabad: Nikhat Zareen from Nizamabad district, Telangana will represent India in the upcoming Boxing Tournament on the Istanbul Bosphorus. It will represent the country in the 51 kg category.
According to a report by Telangana Today, the tournament is expected to take place from From 15 to 21 March.
After the selection, the head of the sports authority of the state of Telangana A Venkateshwar Reddy congratulated her.
Meanwhile, six-time MC world champion Mary Kom, also from the same category, has been retired for the tournament. He recently won a bronze medal in the 35th International Boxam Boxing Tournament held in Castellon, Spain.
Nikhat Zareen has overcome many obstacles
On Thursday at the launch of “Watch Us Move”, Nikhat Zareen said he has overcome many obstacles in life. He revealed that his father had also said, “boxing is not for women”.
“My father’s words inspired me to pursue a career in boxing,” he added.
