Motorsports: Briscoe tricked at Daytonroad course | Sports

DAYTONA, Florida. – Mitchell’s Chase Briscoe was duped, literally and figuratively, on Sunday when his # 14 Ford Performance Racing School Mustang hobbled 32nd in the NASCAR Cup Series O’Reilly Auto Parts 253 at the Daytona Road Course.

Christopher Bell in a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota overtook Joey Logano late and drove off for his maiden Cup Series win.

Chase Elliott in Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet won the first stage, while Denny Hamlin, also with Joe Gibbs Racing, took the second stage.

Briscoe was beset with trouble all day on Daytona International Speedway’s 14-corner 3.61-mile layout. His entry into Stewart / Haas Racing lost power steering not long after the green flag fell, which is almost certainly a death knell for hopes of victory on the road.

After starting 18th, he finished in the top 15 before jumping the turtle in the backstretch chicane, sending the Ford Performance Racing School Mustang for a spin. Briscoe dropped to 39th place but returned to 31st place when he lost power steering.
