Microsoft may impose SSD boot disks on Windows 11 and Android 13 PCs as it approaches platform stability, according to Lilbits

Anyway, take this with a grain of salt for now, as Microsoft hasn’t confirmed the move yet. But it certainly seems plausible. Here’s a roundup of recent tech news from around the web. Android 13 Beta 3 is available for Pixel devices, and brings Android 13 to Platform Stability, meaning all APIs and app-facing behaviors are the same as they will be in the stable release this fall.

Compared to hard discs, SSDs provide a lot of advantages. It’s virtually usually the case that they’re quicker. They don’t have any moving parts, so they’re quieter, more energy efficient, and more robust. If you drop a laptop with an SSD, the storage is far less likely to damage. As a result, it’s no surprise that most PC manufacturers now provide SSDs with their machines. However, there is a report that Microsoft plans to make things official and demand SSDs as the primary boot disc in future Windows 11 PCs. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of purchasing a PC with a hard drive if you want more storage (hard drive storage is often much cheaper, especially if you require a large amount of storage).

  • Amazon notes that Kids+ Family pan subscribers are getting a price cut though, since up to 4 child profiles are supported. Instead of $7.99 (Prime) or $9.99 (non-Prime), prices are now $4.99/$7.99 per month or $48/$79 per year. • Microsoft is reportedly pushing to make SSD boot drives a requirement for PCs that ships with Windows 11 by next year, while HDDs could still be used for additional storage. But most PC makers are already doing that, so it probably won’t be a huge shift. Microsoft has released a major update for the Surface Duo 2 dual-screen phone, including support for 3rd-party conversation apps in the Glance Bar, haptic feedback control in camera app settings, Slim Pen 2 auto-pairing and auto firmware updates, and more.
