Micromax will make a new entry into the smartphone market in India next month. The New Delhi-based smartphone company announced it will hold an event on November 3 to offer shoppers “an authentic Indian choice”. This directly indicates the launch of Micromax In’s new sub-brand. The company will reportedly launch smartphones ranging from Rs 7,000 to Rs 25,000 under the secondary brand.
One of the upcoming Micromax In smartphones was recently spotted on a benchmarking website, revealing some of the specs. It will be called the Micromax In 1A and predictably will come with a MediaTek Helio G35 processor, a 6.5-inch 720p display, up to 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, 5000mAh battery, and Android 10. There may be a another smartphone with a MediaTek Helio G85 processor.
From the camera point of view, the model with the Helio G35 processor will have different configurations on different memory variants. The 2GB RAM version may have dual 13MP and 2MP cameras on the back and an 8MP camera on the front. Meanwhile, the 3GB RAM model is said to have three cameras comprising a 13MP primary, a 5MP secondary sensor, and a 2MP tertiary camera. There will be an upgrade to the 13MP camera on the front.
Micromax is carrying on its back the anti-Chinese sentiment that began after tensions on the border between India and China subsided. A huge backlash ensued on social media, including strong impulses to boycott Chinese brands. Micromax is proposing phrases like “Aao Karein Cheeni Kum”, which could mean “let’s drop the sugar” in a literal sense, but it is clearly a metaphorical use to minimize the dominance of Chinese brands (Cheeni is Chinese in Hindi) from India .
The Indian smartphone market is dominated by the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme and Vivo, all Chinese brands. Their strategy to cut heavyweights like Samsung and Apple has worked in favor. You can get a good Android phone starting at Rs 6,500 today, thanks to brands like Redmi and Realme. Micromax is trying to overturn its business using the same tactic. According to Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Micromax, the company also hopes to enter the mid-range segments with compelling devices.
