LG Velvet is apparently headed for its launch in India ahead of Diwali. The South Korean company’s ambitious smartphone was released a few months ago, but that was the 5G variant suitable for mature markets such as the US, South Korea and Europe. LG subsequently launched the 4G variant of Velvet for markets without 5G networks, which is also what’s coming to India.
An offline retailer Supreme Mobiles has allegedly started taking pre-orders for LG Velvet in India. A tweet now deleted from the retailer’s account revealed that the LG Velvet will cost Rs 39,990 in India. There is no information on the storage variant, however, for this price. In addition, the additional dual screen accessory can also be pre-booked for a total price of Rs 49,990 on LG Velvet. The company is expected to launch the LG Velvet by the end of this month, but no official announcements so far.
LG Velvet specifications
LG Velvet is the latest of the company’s stables to compete with phones like OnePlus, Samsung, Oppo, and Google. The company highlighted how it changed the look of its phone to attract more customers while staying true to its hardware strategy. This all sounds impressive, but LG’s biggest customer complaint is its Android update system. LG is one of the few brands taking years to launch the latest Android software, something its customers have criticized despite their rave reviews about the overall package available on the phone. It will be interesting to see if Velvet finally breaks the cycle and starts a new one.
For specs, LG Velvet comes with a 6.8-inch 1080p pOLED display with an aspect ratio of 20.5: 9. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. The 5G variant of the phone uses the Snapdragon 765G SoC, and there is a UW variant reserved for Verizon customers in the United States.
You get 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, but you can expand the storage using a microSD card up to 2TB. LG Velvet runs on Android 10 with the company’s skin on top.
On the back of the LG Velvet is a setup of three cameras: a 48-megapixel main autofocus shooter, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor and a 5-megapixel depth sensor to produce bokeh effects. The front camera is a 16-megapixel shooter that resides within the notch at the top of the display. LG Velvet comes with a stylus holder and has IP68 dust and water resistance and MIL-STD 810G certifications for durability. The LG Velvet is backed by a 4300mAh battery with 15W fast charging.
