Tech News: Google Phone app now allows you record calls from unknown numbers automatically.
Google has quietly added call recording to its file Phone app last year, with some limitations by device and region. It is now expanding the functionality to let you automatically record calls from unknown numbers. Screenshots of the “Always Record” setting were shared with XDA developers by a whistleblower who gained access to Google Phone app on a Xiaomi Mi A3 phone.
Activating the new feature means you don’t have to hit the record button every time you make or receive a call, which is a useful extension for frequent users. Like the original registration update, it was first spotted in an APK teardown, this time in January. Although it’s reportedly rolling out now, you can expect availability to be strictly limited due to various statutes and regulations that can make call recording a legal minefield. Some states in the United States have passed laws that stipulate that all parties to a conversation must give permission for call recording.
Google already mentions this to new users in a message that reads: “When using the call recording feature, you are responsible for complying with applicable call recording laws. Please note that in many jurisdictions call recording requires consent. on both sides. “Google has also generally limited the feature to certain regions like India and some devices like Xiaomi and Nokia phones.
