Google partnered with US-based luggage company Samsonite to launch a smart backpack called the Konnect-i. The Konnect-i is available in two size options: standard and slim.

The Konnect-i smart backpack features a rigid structural design and features Google’s Jacquard technology that makes the fabric respond to touch commands. As seen in the photo below, there are white parallel lines on the left shoulder strap. That’s where the technology was employed: the touch sensitive area.

To use Konnect-i, users will need to charge the Jacquard Tag (a rectangular dongle) using a micro USB cable and slide it to the designated location on the shoulder strap. Then install the Jacquard app, available for both Android and iOS, and use it to assign four gestures: brush up, down, double tap, and cover.

Gestures can be set to perform operations such as skip or play / pause music, ask assistant a question, answer phone calls, or release placeholders to remind you of places you’ve visited. Via the Jacquard app, users can also set the LED on the Jacquard tag to flash in a range of colors when they use a gesture.

The Konnect-i bag is equipped with numerous pockets for easy storage of technical and personal items. The new smart backpack launched by Google and Samsonite together packs a padded laptop / tablet sleeve in the main compartment. Both sizes are made with a water-repellent polyester with a Teflon backing, according to Samsonite.

The standard-sized Konnect-i model costs $ 220, while the slim model costs $ 200. Both smart backpacks are up for grabs in the United States. The availability and price of the Konnect-i smart backpack in India is unknown.
