Streaming giant Netflix has announced StreamFest, which will allow all users to stream free for 48 hours on Netflix starting December 4th. The promotional offer called “StreamFest” will only be available to Indian users in its testing phase. After seeing the response in India, the company could expand Streamfest to other countries.

“An idea we’re excited about – and we’ll see how it goes, we think giving anyone in one country free access to Netflix for a weekend could be a great way to expose a group of new people to the amazing stories we have.” Netflix COO Greg Peters confirmed in an interview following the company’s third quarter 2020 results. “To really create an event and hopefully get a group of these people to register.”

Users will not be required to provide any payment details to watch the shows on Streamfest. This is different from the 30 day free trials which required users to enter payment details. After the free trials, the company would deduct money based on the plan subscribed by the users.

Earlier this month, Netflix canceled free monthly trials around the world. “Free trials are not available, but you can still sign up and enjoy everything Netflix has to offer,” Netflix says on its Help Center page. “There are no contracts, no cancellation fees and no commitments. You have the freedom to change your plan or cancel it online at any time if you decide Netflix isn’t for you. As a Netflix member, all of our plans give you access to our full catalog of TV shows and movies. Choose a plan that works for you and join Netflix! “

Netflix offers monthly subscriptions starting at Rs 199 which can be canceled at any time. Currently, select users get a 30% discount on annual plans.

Netflix is testing a StreamFest 2-day free streaming promotional offer in India starting December 4th.
