First big patch of Outriders bring inventory wiping bugs and crashes

Tech News: First big patch of Outriders bring inventory wiping bugs and crashes.

Launching on Xbox Game Pass and every platform under the sun, intergalactic loot-shooter Outriders immediately aimed for a huge player base. But the game was hampered by a slew of bugs, servers, and cross-play issues that made it unplayable for some. To make up for the difficult launch, publisher Square Enix is offering early players a thank you bundle as part of the game’s first major patch. All players who logged in between March 31 and April 11 will receive the “community appreciation package,” which consists of a Legendary weapon that matches the level, some Titanium, and (appropriately) the “frustration” emote.

More importantly, the update also addresses a bug that erased players’ inventories. Square Enix says the problem will be greatly reduced after the patch, which doesn’t quite sound like a permanent fix. It also promises a one-time massive restoration that should bring back most of what was lost. Anything missed or occurring in the future will be handled on an “ad hoc basis.”

The patch is expected next week, although the exact release date is still up in the air. Square Enix says it hopes to release it sooner rather than later. Developers are also working on backend improvements that are not dependent on the patch, including some balance changes that adjust loot drops and nerf the Trickster and Technomancer classes. In addition, fixes for multiplayer stability and connection issues are also in the works, but due to the “complexity” of the multiple systems involved, these will likely be a work in progress.
