Sanamacha Chanu (75 kg) and Vinka (60 kg) won gold at the 30th Adriatic Pearl boxing tournament in Budva, Montonegro on Sunday. Their victories brought India’s tally to the three gold medal tournament.
While Sanamacha beat compatriot Raj Sahiba, Vinka beat Moldova’s Kiper Kristina to finish on top of the podium. Both boxers had won gold at the 2019 Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Previously, Asian junior champion Alfiya Pathan (+ 81kg) threw the ball for India in Montonegro to win the contingent’s first gold medal, beating Moldova’s Daria Kozorev 5-0.
Sanamacha previously beat Uzbekistan’s Sokhiba Ruzmetova in a 5-0 unanimous victory and established an all-Indian final against Raj Sahiba. Vinka, meanwhile, did some light work on her Finnish opponent Suvi Tujula. Suvi could not compete with the Indian as she conceded a series of punches, forcing the referee to stop the contest in the second round.
