Atal Tunnel has full 4G connectivity, thanks to BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recently installed Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers at the 9.02km Atal Tunnel known as the Rohtang Tunnel. This means that all BSNL users with 4G services will have an internet speed of between 20 and 25 Mbps when traversing the Atal tunnel. This tunnel is an underpass that connects Lahaul of the Lahaul-Spiti district and the Manali district of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh.

BSNL highlighted its 4G services in the tunnel when the new route opened on 3 October. The company tweeted about its role in delivering 4G services in the tunnel.

BSNL officer Sudershan Kumar recently said that the company has been asked to provide telecommunication services since the foundation stone of the Atal tunnel was laid.

Sanchar Nigam Executives Association (SNEA) also tweeted the same saying: “Atal Tunnel is one of the engineering marvels of modern India. Its BSNL which was to provide the best coverage along the Atal Tunnel and we did not disappoint the nation. “

The Atal tunnel is said to be the longest highway tunnel in the world and with BSNL having successfully installed BTS towers for mobile connectivity, the underpass has been added to one of the tourist spots.

Significantly, prior to the construction of the Atal Tunnel, the Lahaul Valley was closed for nearly half the year for any movement of vehicles. The Atal Tunnel, named after former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has now reduced the distance between Manali and Leh by 46km without any threat posed by bad weather.

However, once again the connectivity to the tunnel highlights something important: BSNL continues to play an important role in providing connectivity in remote areas of the country. While Airtel, Jio, Vodafone-Idea and others focus on areas where there are more consumers, BSNL often provides connectivity even in areas where only a handful of users can have phone connections. BSNL is behind other companies in offering reliable 4G services in cities and large cities, but in some areas it is the only company that provides 3G or 4G services.

BSNL recently installed BTS towers at the Atal Tunnel for wireless communication. When the tunnel opened on October 3, BSNL emphasized its role in providing 4G connectivity for it.
