Apple plans to launch the second generation Airpods Pro next year, which are likely to be more compact. The Cupertino-California tech giant is also working on entry-level third-generation AirPods, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. Apple is also planning to launch audio products like the HomePod mini and upcoming over-ear headphones, and is further mulling over an audio device that sits between the HomePod mini and the original version.
The revamped design of the entry-level AirPods will be similar to the current AirPods Pro, resulting in a shorter stem and replaceable earphones. Additionally, Apple is also looking to improve battery life with the new entry-level AirPods. However, Apple won’t bring high-end features like noise cancellation that AirPods Pro possesses, sources said at the publication.
Apple plans to make the second-generation AirPods Pro more compact by eliminating the short stem that currently protrudes from the bottom. A trial design has a more rounded shape that fills the user’s ear more. This development of this audio product proved challenging due to the integration of noise canceling, wireless antennas and microphones into a smaller AirPods Pro enclosure. This could result in a less ambitious design, as per the report.
Apple may launch the new low-end AirPods during the first half of next year, however, there is no official news from the company yet. The company plans to use new wireless chips to power both models. The company’s Wearables, Home and Accessories division, which includes AirPods, posted revenue of $ 6.5 billion in the last quarter, up more than 70% from two years ago.
AirPods are priced at Rs 14,900 in India, while AirPods Pro comes in for Rs 24,900 as per Apple’s website. The company is likely to see an increase in sales after the new generation iPhone will stop including earphones.
Apple is also considering bringing a Homepod that falls between the size, price and sound quality of the HomePod and HomePod mini. However, it’s unclear whether Apple will release the product or reduce the price at the top end of the Homepod.
Apple has been working on producing high-end noise-canceling over-ear headphones. The device has faced several development challenges over the past couple of years and has been delayed several times. He is currently being delayed due to headband issues.
