Apple iPad Pro with OLED screen could launch in second half of 2021

Apple recently concluded the launch of the new iPhone, Macs and iPads that offer the best of the company’s ecosystem. Now, Apple is working on the next set of devices, including the iPad Pro. But this iPad Pro isn’t coming anytime soon. It’s only been a few weeks since Apple introduced new iPad models, meaning the newest ones will arrive next year. Apple is rumored to be working on an iPad model with the mini LED display, but there may be another model. This model will reportedly have an OLED display and could arrive in the second half of 2021.

A new report from The Elec, a South Korean supply chain retail outlet, says Apple is working on an OLED-screen iPad Pro for launch next year. And this development comes at a time when industry rumors have pointed out that Apple will transition from all kinds of mini-LED display material to the iPad line. Ming-Chi Kuo went so far as to say that the iPad Pro will be the first Apple device to use the new mini LED display. This transition, he said, will begin with the 12.9-inch model of the iPad, followed by the 11-inch model. This will be a sustainable approach that Apple is ready to take for its products, considering the benefits of mini LED displays.

Mini LED is a new type of material that uses a different backlight system than the one used for LCDs. As a result, the experience is the same as an OLED display, but sometimes even more, such as higher brightness, better energy efficiency, and most importantly, a lower risk of burn-in, which is a little more intense on the normal displays with which the current range of iPads are supplied.

Now, the new report has provided an interesting perspective on Apple’s roadmap for iPad Pro models. According to the report, the Cupertino-based company is preparing to choose OLED screens for the iPad Pro tablets to be launched next year. . These displays will be supplied by Samsung, according to The Elec, and these screens will be manufactured using a new process that reduces the risk of burn-in. ‚ÄúSamsung Display was renovating one of its production lines at the Asan A4 plant to produce OLED screens for iPad. The company was adding a distribution chamber to the organic material deposition chamber to deposit red, green and blue in tandem. This will allow the company to deposit a layer of RGB, send the substrate back to the front of the production line and stack an emission layer on top of it, “the report said.

This new tandem structure is more efficient in terms of longevity. Since it allows two to three output layers to be stacked, the battery life is extended compared to that of the normal stack. Apple needs vendors to provide high specs for the OLED the iPad Pro will use, sourced from Samsung Display and LG Display, compared to the “screens they provide. iPhone”the Elec report said citing people familiar with the development.

The report, however, further mentions that the adoption of the iPad Pro OLED models may be delayed compared to the iPad Pro models with mini LED material, due to the difference in the scale of adoption. The mini iPad Pro LED models will arrive first in the first half of the year 2021 while the iPad Pro OLED models will follow these models in the second half of next year. This would mean Apple will begin transitioning to mini LEDs as early as next year, but will ultimately use OLED material to see the market response to both types.

Previously, The Elec had reported that the new iPad Pro models will feature the LiDAR sensor in the camera enhancement system for the rear. Now he’s hinting at some interesting changes on the iPad Pro lineup for the next year, and those changes may prove true considering The Elec’s track record. For consumers, it will be interesting to have options on the iPad Pro, especially since the mini LED will be completely new to them, but it remains to be seen how much difference it would make to regular OLED panels.

Apple is rumored to be transitioning to mini LED displays on iPad Pro next year, but there may be OLED panels on them after that.
