Almost four years after its first release, Samurai Shodown is receiving a rollback netcode

Anyway, we’ve got great news: Samurai Shodown is getting a rollback netcode update in spring 2023 — which should allow for a much better online experience. That’ll be close to four years after the title’s launch! Some may feel as though it’s too late, but we can honestly see Samurai Shodown picking up a bit of steam once the update is out. Either way, it’s nice to see SNK commit to an improvement like this.

Fans of the venerable Samurai Shodown series from SNK were naturally thrilled when the series was revived with a brand-new game for the PS4 in the summer of 2019. Positive reviews for the fighter resulted in the first buzz surrounding the franchise in decades. The intensive game’s netcode, which was, to put it mildly, unreliable, severely let it down. And because online play is essential to the continued success of contemporary fighting games, Samurai Shodown swiftly fell out of favour. It’s a terrible shame because the game itself offers something distinctly unique compared to its combo-heavy rivals.
