St. John’s, Antigua and Barmuda: All-rounder Fabian Allen eliminated three sixes from the penultimate to lead the West Indies to a nervous three-wicket win against Sri Lanka in Sunday’s Twenty20 International final.
Pursuing a modest goal of just 132, the two-time world champions struggled in the chase race as their star trio of Chris Gayle, skipper Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo failed.
Allen’s three sixes came out of spinner Akila Dananjaya when the 25-year-old Jamaican smashed a desperately needed 21 with just six balls faced at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
The West Indies finished with 134-7, clinching the three-game streak 2-1 after a four-wicket win in the first game followed by Sri Lanka’s 43-run win in the second.
